How to Succeed at SalesIn order to succeed at sales, a sales rep or account executive has to has to start out with three qualities or characteristics:
To succeed at sales, it also helps immeasurably to be enthusiastic, sincere, and to maintain a positive attitude about yourself, your product or service offerings, and -- perhaps most importantly -- a positive attitude toward one's customers, clients, or prospects. In addition to impeccable knowledge of your products or service offerings, it's also necessary to have some methodical, proven sales scripts in mind, so you know how to effectively give a sales presentation, respond to questions and objections, and are prepared with strategies for achieving a high closure rate -- a key ingredient in sales success. An extremely important quality for succeeding at sales is cultivating the ability to listen. A prospect who gets the feeling that they are not being listened to is going to make the assumption, and perhaps rightfully so, that their needs are not going to be understood or met, and that the service they could expect, following the sale, is also going to be sub-standard. So to make the prospect feel like they're being listened to, a sales professional needs to employ active listening skills, which involve asking relevant questions and sometimes repeating back to the prospect what you understand to be important to them. The remaining qualities of someone who has developed the ability to succeed at sales would include good time management skills, setting achievable goals, developing exceptional organizational and planning skills, and being willing to stretch the limits of their 'comfort zone' on a regular basis. |
